A Little Update

Hey!

I’m finally starting to feel a bit better, so I just wanted to update you guys on my current reads. I’m a bit over a third of the way through Alice in Zombieland and about 3/4 of the way through Fire (Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, Book 2). I’ll have some new reviews up for you this weekend! As always, thanks for following!

Paper Towns

Author: John Green

Publisher: Speak

Genre: YA/Mystery

Pages: 336

So, as I mentioned before, this was my first John Green book. It’s not the type of book that I normally get in to, but with it having such great reviews (from reviewers and my friends) I decided that I needed to give it a try. It was great! I really enjoyed it.

Quentin and Margo have been neighbors since they were babies, and were friends as children. They grew apart as they grew up, and Margo became a super popular badass, and Quentin was one of the smart, kind of nerdy, quiet kids. Margo did tell the other popular kids that he was off limits, as far as physically pranking or pounding on, but that was about the extent of their relationship….until one night their senior year. Having been cheated on by her boyfriend with another so-called friend, and betrayed by the rest of her friends that knew and didn’t tell her, Margo has had enough. She recruits Quentin to go with her on a series of pranks and hijinks, and then she disappears. No one know s where she ran to, but she ran. Quentin and his friends spend the last month of their senior year trying to make sense of the clues that she left behind to find out where she went, or if she’s even alive.

Green does a great job of character development and scene description. I could really get a sense of who these teens were and what they were seeing. I am a fan! I’ve already picked up Looking for Alaska to read soon!

Sail

sail

Author: James Patterson

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

Genre: Thriller

Pages: 448

In this Patterson thriller, Katherine Dunne is taking her three children on a forced family sailing trip in an attempt to reconnect their family. In the four years since her husband died and she remarried, their family has fallen apart. Determined to remedy this, Katherine asks her deceased husband’s brother, Jake, to captain their trip. Unfortunately, things start going wring as soon as they sets sail. Along with their family drama, someone wants the entire Dunne family to disappear.

This isn’t quite like Patterson’s typical mystery/thrillers. The reader knows who the antagonist is throughout the novel, so that is no mystery. The intrigue comes in the family’s fight to survive, and the antagonist’s attempt to cover their tracks and get the job done. It switches perspective often, but not in a confusing way. The reader just has to pay attention to who is “talking”. This was definitely not my favorite Patterson novel, but it was ok. It certainly wasn’t bad for a quick read.

The Night Circus

Author: Erin Morgenstern

Publisher: Anchor Books

Genre: Fantasy

Pages: 516

Ok, my dear readers, I know that some of you will most likely strongly disagree with me, but this novel was not awesome for me. I’m not sure exactly what it was. The story line was good. The writing was good, as well. It just kind of drug on for me. The pace just didn’t pick up, in my opinion. It certainly wasn’t a bad book, I just had some trouble really getting in to it. The author did an amazing job with the imagery in this book. It was riveting! The characters were just a bit…one dimensional may be the best word. There were some interesting characters, but it wasn’t the protagonists. The dialog between Celia and Marco was certainly nothing to write home about, for the most part, and I really couldn’t get in to them. I did like the ending, though. It seems like the right way to end it. Overall, I would say that it was an ok novel. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was ok. Again, this is just my opinion. There are many reviews out there that proclaim that this is one of the best novels of the year, it just wasn’t for me.

Update on my current reads

Paper Towns is pretty good so far! Not what I normally read, and *gasp* my first John Green novel (I know, I know). I’m really liking it, though!

I’m still trying to decide whether or not I like Night Circus, though. It seems to be dragging a little bit for me. I know that it has really good reviews, I’m just having trouble really getting in to it. It’s not bad by any means, just dragging a bit. Maybe it will get better!

I’ll keep you updated! 🙂

Coming Up…

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, Book 6)

Last Sacrifice

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, Book 6)

Author: Richelle Mead

Series: Vampire Academy

Publisher: Razorbill

Genre: Fantasy

Pages: 594

The last installment of this wonderful series begins with our favorite dhampir, Rose, locked up while she is awaiting her trial for the queen’s murder. While dealing with the stress of her own situation, Rose must also find a way to deal with the information that was given to her in the queen’s final note: Lissa has a sibling. There is another Dragomir! To complicate things even more, she has two amazing men in her life, and she loves them both. What’s a girl to do? It turns out, it’s not all up to her. All of the people in her life band together to save Rose, and figure out who was actually responsible for the murder before it’s too late.

In the end, Rose does make a choice between the two men in her life. I was honestly rooting for both of them, but I am very happy with her choice. I won’t ruin that for you, dear reader; you can find out that one on your own! Mead does an awesome job of rounding out this series in this novel. I was very happy with the way that it ended, and I am sad that it’s over. I would have loved to have seen how things progressed once all of the plot lines were figured out. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did!
