This novella is by a favorite author of mine, Jordan K. Rose! I was lucky enough to receive this novella as an ARC in exchange for my honest review of it, so I am going to dive right in. I have loved this series of novellas from the very first one, His Vampire Past (as I have loved everything that Jordan has written, but I digress), and Jordan did not let me down on this one! Each novella in this series, while bringing back some of the same recurring characters, focuses on a different member of the Vampire Guard, and this one focused on Serge’s story. Now, Serge, with his large, bald, powerful presence, has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning, so I was really hoping that we were going to get a book that focused on him! He is the leader of the Vampire Guard, so obviously the Panthera Lab folks (who are taking the vamps to do experiments on them: seriously people, get the rest of the novellas and catch up! They’re not that long!) want to their hands on him. The only way to do that is to find a weakness, but does Serge really have a weakness? Enter Harriet, a lovely human whom Serge has finally let himself fall in love with after so many centuries of not letting anyone in. What will he do, and how far will he go to protect the woman that he loves? What will she do when she realizes what and who he is, and the danger that he has put her in? I’m not going to ruin it for you, but I will say that I absolutely loved getting to see this side of Serge and getting to know him more as a man rather than just the Guard’s leader. I can’t wait for more!!!

This novella released 4/20/15, and is available in digital media only. Here are the links that I have so far, and I will update once I receive any other’s from Jordan:
